Public Transit Fares Could Rise

Officials are considering a proposed 25 percent increase in bus fares on Gwinnett County's public transit system, according to news reports.
The Gwinnett Transit Advisory Board is scheduled to hear input from the public on the proposed fare hike during a 7 p.m. Monday meeting at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports (http://bit.ly/oeXj3Q) that fares would vary from $3.75 to $5 based on location for certain express routes if the proposal is approved.
Officials said local service would be $2.50 per ride for many passengers under the plan.
Paratransit service, which is used by disabled and elderly riders who are picked up at their homes, would rise to $4.
