2010 Subaru Tribeca Gives a Lot for the Money

If you're in the market for a mid-size SUV, and you want one that has a nice design and great reliability, Subaru has an attractive selection for you.

The Subaru Tribeca has a strong engine, nicely equipped interior and responsive ride.

The Tribeca has been on the market for a few years, and has achieved mixed results. Some people did not like the styling of the original version's front-end, which has since been changed.

Also, it is competing in a crowded field of mid-size SUVs and crossovers.

New for this year is the standard seven-passenger configuration.

The Tribeca doesn't come cheaply. It has a base price of about $30,000, and at higher trim levels can head north of $37,000.

But keep in mind that in addition to the seven-passenger seating, another key standard feature is all-wheel drive.

Fuel economy is just so-so; the Tribeca gets 16 mpg city, 21 highway, according to EPA estimates.

The Tribeca has a powerful six-cylinder engine that is capable of strong acceleration. It also handles quite nicely and has a solid ride quality.

Engine noise levels might be a bit higher than you would expect, but it's not terribly intrusive.

Braking is pretty solid.

On the inside, you'll find plenty of cargo space and a neat, but not fancy, design. All of the controls were placed very ergonomically and the quality of the materials is excellent.

The seats are adequately supportive, and head and leg room are good, even in the second row.

As for safety, the Tribeca does exceptionally well in government crash test and is designated a top safety pick in insurance industry testing.

The Tribeca comes with Subaru's three-year/36,000 mile warranty.

You can choose from three trim levels: the base Premium, the mid-level Limited and the top-of-the-line Touring.
